April 2025 Newsletter
Welcome to our April Newsletter, we have enjoyed the recent dry, warm and sunny spell and since March have seen lots of new senior and junior members joining the club.
We continue to offer a range of social sessions and our club tournament season has just started. We are looking forward to the City League which starts in May and wish our four teams well.
SOCIAL CLUB SESSIONS
Our Saturday afternoon improvers social sessions run from 2 to 4pm.
They are designed for people who are looking to practice their tennis through playing games and mixing in with others at a broadly similar level. (For example a number of our Rusty Rackets Alumni are now playing).
The session is organised and supported by club member volunteers. If you are an established player who would like to volunteer to help please contact one of the committee.
Monday morning sessions start at 10am and run for up to two hours, They are for players of all standards to come along & enjoy their tennis. Improvers are welcome and will be supported.
Both sessions are free for club members and we also welcome pay and play for non members at £5 per session (after two free sessions).
Our regular Tuesday and Friday evening club sessions for intermediate and above now all start at 6pm over the summer months and continue to be well attended. (Non members of at least an intermediate standard who would like to try us out as a club are welcome to attend.)
AMERICAN TOURNAMENT
Our first tournament of the season was held on the 13th April and was a handicapped American Doubles. This was played over seven rounds with a short break in the middle and bring and share food with guests & friends throughout.
Despite some last minute injuries we had a virtually full house and our congratulations go to Sarah Dyson and Kim Braine who tied at the top of their group and to Jerry Bradnam who achieved the most games in his group.
A big thank you to: all those who played, baked, brought food and helped organise this fun tournament (and to the weather which held off raining until after we had finished).
The next tournament will be in around six weeks time.

We attended an LTA Parks Tennis Zoom meeting as Kett’s is council owned and already has pay and play and season pass subscriptions. Any of our members who want to help out and drive participation can take the Activator LTA training.

Matt Brooks is the new overall manager of Wymondham Leisure and Kett’s Park and together with Liv Towler they are our principle contacts. We held our first meeting and were pleased to report one football was found on the courts and returned to Kett’s reception. (Signs and external fence repairs must be helping.) If you see any damage or other issues please let one of the committee know so that we can get them on S. Norfolk Leisure’s to do list. They will be sending out the dates for planned court and floodlight maintenance and will block out the courts for them to take place safely.
