IN OTHER NEWS

Club of the year

On the 4th June a small group from WTC are heading off to Cromer Lawn Tennis Club to collect our president’s commendation for runner up club of the year.

Blofield, whose club centenary it was, won the award this time round having previously applied unsuccessfully in the past for club of the year.

Given our success in attracting new members, our very popular Rusty Rackets programmes, our full cardio tennis and junior coaching offerings, the increase in the number of social sessions and, with South Norfolk Leisure offering pay and play / annual pass we plan to apply for club of the year again next time round. You can help us by completing nomination forms to the LTA - details to follow.

Committee make up & minutes

Malcolm Clarke has decided to step down from the committee and we would like to thank him for his work on behalf of our club. He was instrumental is setting up our Monday morning socials and we hope will continue as our official photographer.

We invited people to attend or submit any issues they wanted raising at our May meeting. The minutes of this meeting can be found here.

Membership, pay and play and the weather

We have had a fantastic start to 2025 with many new members joining and re-joining. We are getting close to 200 (including annual pass) and the ratio of men : women is improving. Our aim is to try and recruit around twenty more ladies over the course of this year. This would not only redress the gender balance but could provide the opportunity to field additional mixed and women’s teams in the future.

The level of pay and play is very healthy and both the LTA and S. Norfolk are very happy with the progress we are making.

Finally, for those of us who can remember last year, we had to wait until April to have weather dry and warm enough to lay the concrete in front of the clubhouse. From one of the wettest Springs on record last year, this year it has been one of the warmest and driest. This has been great news for tennis if not our gardens.
